This Friday, we have two movies hitting the theatres and one of them includes Dawat-e-Ishq. The said movie is directed by Habib Faisal while the actors in the lead role include Aditya Roy Kapur, Parineeti Chopra, Karan Wahi and Anupam Kher. It is produced by Aditya Chopra (Yash Raj Films) while its music director is Sajid Wajid and the lyrics comes from Kausar Munir. For Karan Wahi, the known TV actor and presenter, this movie would be a special one, as he makes his debut in Bollywood with Dawaat-e-Ishq. The movie was supposed to be released this summer; however, it did witness a couple of changes in release dates, finally seeing the movie hitting on 19th September 2014.

Daawat-e-Ishq is a Bollywood comedy drama film directed by Habib Faisal and produced by Aditya Chopra under the banner of Yash Raj Films. It features actors Aditya Roy Kapur and Parineeti Chopra in the lead roles. This is Habib Faisal’s second movie as a director after Ishaqzaade

Now, let us check its plot, you have a man called Gulrez Qadir alias Gullu played by Parineeti Chopra. She is a Hyderabadi sales girl at a shoe store, who is simply disillusioned with the emotion of love since she had several bad encounters with dowry seeking men and greedy people. On the other side, you have a man called Taru Haidar, played by Aditya Roy Kapur, he hails from Lucknow, who is known to spread the aroma of different nawabi cuisines and food. His competence to cook well can be judged to a fact that he has the magic in his hand, which can impress anyone and everyone with the taste he puts in his Biryani and irresistible Kebabs. Both these personalities are different to each other belonging to two different cultures. However, they encounter in the quest of the Hyderabadi lady wanting to find his Mr. Right whom she calls her Mister Universe when she enters the restaurant called Big Boss Hyderi Kebab. Their encounters with each other soon end up in creating their own spicy love story that is portrayed wonderfully in the movie called Dawat-e-Ishq.

Now, let us have the gist of the performance of the lead characters discovered here. Let’s start with Parineeti Chopra (PC) in the character of a sales girl in Hyderabadi avatar. She is as usual chirpy and bubbly as always and oodles out her energy in anything she does in the movie. As she has worked with Habib Faisal, it was comfortable working with her making her performance speak on the silver screen. She seems good over the movie at least if you compare it with her debut movie Ishaqzaade. On the other side, you have Aditya Roy Kapur, who is an ace actor as far as his two hit movies are concerned. All though both of his earlier movies had similar kind of character, yet the difference you see here, as a Lucknowi Cook has been incredible. He seems doing justice to his character, which speaks about his dexterity and versatile nature. For people like Karan Wahi, it was really nice watching him over the silver screen doing really some justice to his debut character, while Anupam Kher was simply awesome as a typical Hyderabadi father of a young girl like PC.
Talking about the music the duo composers Sajid-Wajid and the lyricist Kausar Munir were successful enough to add the nineties soundtrack in this foodie movie. The singers have really put forth something tangible for the listeners, be it Shreya Ghosal, Sonu Nigam or even the singers like Sunidhi Chauhan and Javed Ali. The different songs and the music have been diverse and soothing backed by creativity of the duo directors. In nutshell, the music brings up the musical flavours of both the royal places of India- Lucknow and Hyderabad coming together in a single sweet package.

List of All Daawat E Ishq Movie Review by Critics

Will be updated on 20 September.

2. Daawat E Ishq movie review by NDTV - 3 Star Rating

“The film kicks off in the manner of a social drama, turns into a mild crime caper, then takes on the dimensions of a culture clash comedy, and finally winds up like a love story with a happy ending.” Full Review .

3. Daawat E Ishq movie review by Taran Adarsh (Bollywood Hungama) – 2.5 Star Rating
“DAAWAT-E-ISHQ, which has been directed and written by Habib Faisal fails to live upto the standards of a YRF film. This film, despite dealing with a sensitive issue and a strong social message, loses its track gradually as the film progress. While the film has a comparatively engaging first half, it stumbles in the dragging second half. Plus, the slow pace of the film doubles up as a villain in the film’s progress. On the whole, the plot of DAAWAT-E-ISHQ does have a good social message relevant to today’s times, however, wrong marketing and slow pace of the film leaves the audience a bit disappointed.” Full Review

4. Daawat E Ishq movie review by Indian Express - 1.5 Star Rating

“Daawat-e-Ishq’ is so annoyingly bland that you wonder who cooked this one up, and for whom? As Gullu’s straight-laced but loving father, Anupam Kher gives the film its only moments of honesty. The rest is an unpalatable snoozefest. One and a half stars.” Full Review .

5. Daawat E Ishq movie review by Times Of India - 3 Star Rating
“Habib Faisal’s offering is definitely fresher than a packaged, frozen meal; but when he’s not paying attention the story boils over and the flavour escapes quickly. The second half crumbles (guess some recipes got nixed here) and the climax is far from slurp-worthy. There are some ‘specials of the day’ like Booji’s goofiness during the con-act, and the line-up of dowry-hungry men walking into the trap, but the characters are not as indulgent as the dishes. Parineeti displays ‘high-cal’ emotions once again, with her sweet Hyderabadi accent and superb confidence. Aditya charmingly shows flair with his Lucknowi style and ada. Their chemistry doesn’t simmer; it’s low-fat kulfi at best. Kher peppers it with a stand-out sorbet act.” Full Review

6. Daawat E Ishq movie review by Rajeev Masand - 2 Star Rating

“Fortunately the actors bring their A-game to the film, glossing over many of the script problems. Parineeti Chopra is genuine and affecting, although she’s played this kind of spirited character a few times before. Aditya Roy Kapur, in a part more flamboyant than he’s tackled previously, gets the body language just right and builds from there. Anupam Kher strikes the right balance between comical and vulnerable, constructing a character that feels immediately recognizable.” Full Review

7. Daawat E Ishq movie review by Rediff - 3 Star Rating
“Daawat-E-Ishq is like an exuberant menu of a newly opened restaurant that’s eager to please with its spread of scrumptious offerings that balances crowd-favourites with substance. ” Full Review

8. Daawat E Ishq movie review by Anupama Chopra

9. Daawat E Ishq movie review by KoiMoi.com - 2.5 Star Rating
“Daawat-e-Ishq is a disappointing recipe of love. Quite like its story, the film thugs you into believing it’s all about lofty, delicious, gourmet cinema. Sadly it’s none of those and not even close. It is an excruciating bore lacking the fundamental thrill factor. Predictable and mediocre, Daawat-E-Ishq is the not a film Aditya, Parineeti and mostly Habib Faisal can pass for posterity.” Full Review

10. Daawat E Ishq movie review by Headlines Today - 3,5 Star Rating
“Filmmaker Habib Faisal managed to get all the right ingredients in Daawat E Ishq. Casting tops that list. Parineeti Chopra, Aditya Roy Kapoor along with Anupam Kher ensure you are glued to the screen and entertained as well. Daawat-e-Ishq may not be a perfect film but it’s an adorable love story and the two young actors make it paisa vasool. Go for it because the taste is just right!” Full Review

11. Daawat E Ishq movie review by Glamsham - 2 Star Rating

“The intention of director Habib Faisal is noble, but the route he has taken is long and boring. What Faisal wants to depict is how a woman makes the best from Section 498A of the Anti-Dowry Act. What I gather he was trying to portray, according to what he has been saying in interviews, is that it is ok if a man dupes woman demanding dowry, but when a woman turns the tables, she becomes a criminal! ” Full Review

12. Daawat E Ishq movie review by Jagran

“Being a light romantic saga the film can be considered digestive but at times it also seems like a boring ‘khichdi’. Aditya Roy Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra can be seen completely engrossed in their character and looks great exploring the colours of the city and romancing alongside on the streets. The vivacious Parineeti lights up every frame she’s in while Aditya with his charm and wit marks his presence.” Full Review

Last word – Dawat-E-Ishq

Let us not forget the Yash Raj Film elements, which is visible in almost all their movies. This is nothing but the love and romance elements, for which the production house is known for. The movie comes with typical Bollywood romance and love tadka, with different shades of spice evident in kitchen perfectly interwoven in a beautiful romantic B Town movie. Thanks to Aditya Chopra who is been known to put these elements with perfection unlike his late father. Above all, the soothing music, incredible soundtrack, backed by incredible overseas locations of Switzerland and Spain simply would mesmerize the audience. The movie is backed with different script of love and romance and thus could be called as a watchable one. With favorable cast discovered in the movie, it is likely to attract a wide audience thus doing good business over the box office. Considering so many elements, we can give the rating of 3.5.
