Controversial rapper Honey Singh who earlier drew flak over lewd lyrics has been summoned by Punjab and Harayana High Court on Thursday to appear before the court on May 14 to respond to the allegations levelled against him for singing a song ‘Main Hoon Balatkari’.

Honey Singh has been accused of singing vulgar song ‘Main Hon Balatkari’. According to daily report, the High Court asked the singer to respond to the charges while hearing a Public Interest Litigation filed by NGO HELP.

Taking cognizance of much hoopla over the song ‘Main Hoon Balatkari’ sung at the time massive protest against Delhi gang-rape, the NGO, HELP, has pitched for court’s involvement to check lewd songs which are crooned by Punjabi singers.

According to sources, the NGO is of the firm opinion that dignity of a human being could not be disgraced under the garb of right to freedom of speech and expression (Article 19) and women do have every right to protect their dignity in the same vein of right to life enshrined under Article 21.

The Punjab government informed the court on March 1 that the procedure was going on for framing a policy in order to ban vulgar and sexist songs, but nothing concrete has come so far.
